CONVENT SCHOOL CONCERT.

TOWN HAUv TO-NIGHT. The annual concert by the' pupils of the local convent school will take place In the Town Hall this evening. The programme consists of instrumental and vocal items, patriotic choruses, recitation, a farce, and a pretty musical cantata entitled “ The Magic Wood." The scene opens in the wood where the girls are having a picnic (school being closed for the day on account of the illness of the teacher’s sister). The boys, who have been amusing themselves otherwise, come on the girls, and help themselves to their lunch. In the meantime the Fairy Sunbeam comes along, and, as the boys do not show repentance for their rudeness, she punishes them by placing their hands in their pockets, from where they are not able to withdraw them. She tells them that when they do some kind act they will be able to free themselves. An opportunity occurs for an act oi kindness to be performed. Tommy Tucker seizes the opportunity, and immediately his and all the other boys’ hands are freed. Boys and girls then join in the final chorus and march. “The Turned Head" is a capital farce. A young man is disinherited by his father on account of an attachment for a young lady whom the father thinks beneath him. In order to change his father’s resolution he pretends to be mad, and places himself in a mental asylum, where he is assisted by one of the servants. The plan works out very well, as the doctor happens to be a friend of the family. He brings the father to see the state to which his son has been reduced. The old man breaks down at the sight, and immediately repents of his harshness, and gives his consent for the marriage. The tickets have sold freely, and everything points to a large attendance,
