FOXTON PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

PATRIOTIC SHOP TO BE OPENED. A meeting of the executive of the Foxton Patriotic Society was held last week, the president, Mr Alf. Fraser, occupied the chair. The Secretary reported that the rehearsals for the Patriotic Concert were progressing satisfactorily and that a splendid programme had been arranged. Tickets had been distributed and are selling well. Mrs Greig, on behalf of the Ladies Guild, introduced a scheme for building a shop for the sale of any articles, eatable or otherwise, that might be donated for the Wounded Soldiers Fund, The Society adopted the idea and a sub committee, consisting of Mrs Greig and Messrs Freeman, Raine and Kellow, was formed to carry out the details. This committee ha ;’ secured permission from the owner of the section of land between Messrs Healey aud Bullard’s shops, in Main street, to erect a temporary building, and permission is being sought from the Borough Council to erect same, and also to supply gas free for one night per week. Mr R. N. Speirs has generously donated all the timber required, aud galvanised iron, sufficient to complete the work has been donated by Messrs Briscoe and Co., Duthie and Co., E. W. Mills and Co., and Stewart and Co. (Wellington); Messrs Hopwood Ltd., Collinsonand Son and Manson and Barr, Ltd. (Palmerston N.) aud Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd. (Foxton). Several donations in cash have been received to go towards fitting up the shop, and any gifts of old chairs and other suitable furniture that any resident feels disposed to give will be gratefully acknowledged. The shop will be opened on Saturday next and the Ladies Guild, headed by Mrs Greig and Miss Ross are now busy collecting produce, etc., aud a successful opening is assured. A working bee is being organised and any offers ot help will be thankfully accepted, as it is desired to commence building operations almost at once.
