SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the local Slate School Committee was held last night. Present ; Messrs Hornblow (chairman;, Dr, Maud), Rev. Rab e, Betty, Chrystall, Hussey and Perreau. Correspondence was read from the Board re the Committee’s request for the rent of the old school residence, stating that the letter had been received.—After discussion it was decided that the Committee take further action in the matter. The head-master’s report was read and received. It was decided to apply to the Board for a new tank to replace the one which is worn out. A vote of thanks was passed, to Mr Bock for his generous offer of certificates iu lieu of prizes this year. It has since been ascertained that sufficient prizes have been voluntarily donated. Arrangements for entertaining the children at the breaking-up ceremony were left in Mr M. E. Perreau’s hands. The schedule of duties for school cleanihg was presented, discussed aud adopted. It was decided to offer the position to the present caretaker at a salary of £\ per week, and failing his acceptance to publicly invite applications for the position. The matter was left iu the hands of the Chairman aud Secretary; It was decided to ask Mr J. W. Poynton, S.M., to present the prizes at the breaking-up ceremony on Thursday next, and to convey to him the Committee’s appreciation for the interest he has evinced iu the school and the educational value of his lectures. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Redgrave for acting as cricket coach to the school. The head teacher stated that the Terrace End School generously donated a tennis net and two racquets to the school won by them' in an essay competition. As Terrace End school has not a tennis court, they kindly passed the trophies over to Foxtou. The Chairman referred to the fine spirit which actuated the gift and it was decided to tender the thanks of the school to the donors.
