WEDDINGS.
MATHKSON—SMITH,
A very pretty wedding, followed by Nuptial Mass, of considerable local interest was solemnised by the Rev Father Cronin, assisted by the Rev Father Morris, at St. Mary’s Church, Foxton, on Thursday last, 7th inst. The contracting parties were Mary, eldest daughter of Mr J. A. Smith, of Foxtou, and William, second son of Mr John Matheson, of Stroraness, Scotland. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a gown of ivory crepe de-chene, trimmed with shadow lace and pearls, and wore the orthodox veil and orange blossoms arranged in mop cap style. She was attended by Miss Kathleen Sullivan (Palmerston North), and Miss Annie Neazor (Lower Hull), both of whom wore white crepe-de-chene gowns, with swaithed violet belts and violet hats, and carried posies of violets, fresias, and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Frank Smith as best man, and Mr Jack Sullivan, of Palmerston N., as groomsman. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a dress case, and to the bridesmaids gold bangles. The bride’s present to the bridegroom was a leather suit case. After the ceu mony a reception was held at Mr Perreau’s tea rooms, where the usual toasts were honoured. Subsequently the happy couple left by motor for their future home in the Auckland district. The bride’s travelling dress was a navy tailored costume, with hat to match. Mr and Mrs Matheson, who are well-known and highly respected in the district, were the recipients of many handsome and valuable presents, including several cheques.
READ—GIFFORD.
A wedding was celebrated at All Saints’ Church on Thursday afternoon, when Mr Percival Charles Read, fourth son of Mr and Mrs S. Read, of Foxton, was united in matrimony to Elsie May Gifford, youngest daughter of the late Mr aud Mrs Gifford, of Lyttelton. The ceremony was peformed by the vicar, Rev W. Raine, The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr Bert Gifford, stationmaster at Maugaweka, was attired in a gabidine costume with hat to match trimmed with pink roses and while veil. The bride was alteuded by Miss M. Rodewald, of Maugaweka, who was attired in a dress of spoiled voile, trimmed with satin aud black hat with amber roses. The bride and bridesmaids canied beautiful bouquets. Mr V. Reid officiated as groomsman. Alter the ceremony the party and guests proceeded to the residence of the bridegroom’s parents where the breakfast was partaken of and the usual toasts honoured and felicitous speeches made. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a gold necklet and ruby pendant and to the bridesmaid a gold brooch with setting of pearls. The bride’s present to the bridegroom was a set of gold sleeve links. The presents and good wishes from far and near testified to the popularity of the happy couple. Mr and Mrs Read motored to Palmerston in the evening en route to their future home at Rangataua- The festivities continued till about midnight. During the evening selections were played by the Borough Band.
