COURT-MARTIAL.

TWO MAORIS TO BE CHARGED WITH DESERTION. Auckland, 7th October.

It is not often that a courtmartial takes place lu Auckland, but 011 Tuesday next a military tribunal will sit at Narrow Neck. Two Maori soldiers, members of the 2nd Reinforcements, will be charged with desertion. One is alleged to have deserted while on leave, and the other is stated to have escaped from the ship.

The proceedings will be of more than ordinary interest, since an important witness will be a Maori occupying a high position, who is alleged to have made utterances calculated to actuate men in their desertion. The proceedings will be open.
