HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A well-attended committee meeting of the above Society was held last night, Mr G. H. Stiles (president; occupied the chair. The sub-committee appointed to go into the questions of increase of prizes and finance generally presented their report, which was to the effect that the Society is not in a position to increase the scale of prizes to any great extent, but recommends that the prizes awarded at the Bulb Show be adopted for the Spring and Autumn .Shows : and that in order to defray cost of printing schedules the town be canvassed for advertisements to he inserted in same. The report was adopted. The schedules for the Spring and .Autumn Shows were carefully gone into and amended. It was decided to increase the points prize in pot plants to 7-* 64. The points prizes in the : actions were increased by unanimous consent. It was decided that the judge’s recommendation that all cooking exhibits be made at least, a day before the show be given effect to. The suggestion that the cooking and home industries classes he deleted was wisely turned down. It was decided to add a class to the schedule for a collection of patriotic goods, consisting of not less than three or more than six different articles, the some to become the property of the Society, to be distributed among the several patriotic guilds, and that the prizes be: Ist 10s, 2nd ss, 3rd ss, 4th ss, entrance tree. The schedules as amended were adopted.
