CHURCH SERVICES AT THE FRONT.

ALLEGED BIGOTRY

London, September 25

Mr Lauchlau Mac Lean Watt, in an article in the Scotsman, says: “Hitherto the custom at a great camp in Northern France has been to hold a united parade service for all creeds under the guidance of the Presbyterian and Anglican chaplains, and there has been no attempt at proselytising. When the Anglican chaplain was removed elsewhere on the trout, the Presbyterian continued his services until another Anglican came. Bishop Gwynne, who was recently appointed to supervise the Anglican chaplains, has now intimated that joint, services must cease, and Anglican soldiers only attend the Anglican services.”

Mr Watt continues ; “It is impossible tor the gn’ , '' t mass of Anglicans to appro. diis bitterness. Elsewhere in a hospital where a wounded Scotsman was lying a chaplain came in to give communion to the stricken, and he said with a light smile, ' You are out of it, Jock ! I can’t give it

you.’ ”

Mr Watt adds; “How the stricken Christ must have felt his wounds burst forth again. Churchmen will be playing the most dangerous game at. this moment of supreme sacrifice il they persist in putting forward shibboleth for Hie reality.”
