TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.
The Town Clerk furnished the following report at last night’s Borough Council meeting “I beg to report that the road staff has been engaged as under since last meeting: Cleaning out drain Howan Street, letting off water on roads, spreading metal on Union, Main, Johnston, Baker, Hall and Whyte Streets also Moutoa and Sandon Roads, cleaning out well at windmill, cleaning channels, making trough at windmill and concreting sides of well. In connection with the pump at the windmill, the pipe got clogged up with sand and the pump could not work accordingly, so 1 got Mr E. J. Martin to give it a thorough wash out. The windmill is now being properly overhauled as it has not been working satisfactorily tor some time. We also found the pole supporting it rotten, so it had to be spliced and new strainers put in. As the water will not come up so fast as ii used to Mr Ross suggests that we put in a pump a size larger than the present one. While we are overhauling the windmill I would suggest that as the casing of the structure is very rotten I would like to strip off the present boards and give the structure a good coat of tar, and when it is resheathed to give the new boards a new coat of tar as well. As the metal ordered is coming to hand fairly regular now the road staff are kept busy spreading most of the time.”
