BOROUGH COUNCIL.
COMMITTEE REPORTS. The following committee reports were read and adopted at last night’s Borough Council meeting : Finance, Meeting held on July gth. Present : Crs. Whibley (chairman), Freeman and Simmons. An apology for absence was received from the Mayor. Accounts and vouchers were read and accounts amounting to 18s 6d were certified to and recommended for payment. Mr A. Spetrs account for £2 10s tor preparing plans and specifications for the town hall fire escapes was again received. The Treasurer again explained that there was no arrangement with Mr Speirs to charge for this work, a statement that was supported by the late Mayor and Councillors, Further, he had been advised by the Audit Inspector that if the account were paid he would not pass it. In view of the above the committee decided that it could not recommend the Council to pass the account as it was not authorised. Ltruarv. A meeting of the committee was held on July 12th. Present; The Mayor (chairman), and Crs. Freeman, Bryant and Stevenson. The purchase of thirteen now volumes for the library was authorised.
