MANAGER’S REPORTSThe gasworks manager, Mr M. H. STREET LAMPS CONSUMPTION. Cr Whibley pointed out that according to the manager’s report the consumption of gas in the street lamps was still the “same old” 31,000 ft. per month. Meters had been installed on two of the lamps for the purpose of ascertaining what quantity of gas was consumed, the meters to he read by the gas manager in conjunction with the gas committee. At first this reading was carried out, but like the boy with the new toy, the novelty bad apparently worn off and the members of the committee responsible for the work, Crs. Henderson and McColl, had not continued with the reading, as no report from them was submitted. He was sorry to have to speak on this matter in lbs absence of the two Councillors, but they had been the chief movers in the agitation iu connection with the street lamps consumption and it seemed clear that they had neglected their duty. If Councillors could not pay attention to their duties they should get out and make room for others who could. The Mayor said he was sorry the two Councillors were not present. Cr Freeman : Perhaps they may have some explanation. Cr Whibley: They should have submitted a report.
