VALEDICTORY.
Mr and Mrs J. R. Hynes, who are leaving Foxton next week for Te Puke, were entertained at a social and dance in St. Mary’s schoolroom last night by their Catholic and other friends. Father Cronin occupied the chair, and during an Interval in the programme, on behalf of their many friends, made a presentation to the guests of the evening. The presentation took the form of a silver tea set and tray, and in his remarks Father Cronin referred to the good work done by Mr and Mrs Hynes in connection with the Church and other matters, and wished them prosperity in their new home. Mr S. Hudson, on behalf of the members of St. Vincent de Paul Siety, also spoke in eulogistic terms of the guests’ connection with the Society. Mr Hynes suitably responded. During the evening vocal and other items were contributed by Miss Ebbett and Messrs Walls, Buglass, King, East, Robinson, Hooker and Colder. After an adjournment for supper, provided by the ladies of the parish, the room was cleared for dancing, which was kept up until midnight. The music was provided by Miss Eenihan and Messrs Ebbett, East, Robinson and Walls.
The stewards of the local Racing Club entertained Mr Hynes, who was also a steward of the Club, at Whyte’s Hotel last night and Mr W. E. Barber, on behalf of those present, presented him with a case of pipes. Dr. Mandl and Mr Hunt also referred in eulogistic terms to Mr Hynes’ connection with the Club. Mr Hynes suitably responded.
