THE OLD PEOPLE’S HOME.
At Thursday’s meeting of the District Hospital Board, Mr Hornblow raised an objection to hospital patients, presumably incurables, being sent to the Old People’s Home. At present four had been transferred to the old people’s institution without the sanction ot the Board. The secretary interjected that the Board had sanctioned the transfer owing to the lack of hospital accommodation. Mr Hornblow said the medical officer had ordered the removal of the patients and subsequently reported to the Board. The sanction of the Board should have been first obtained. Such patients needed the attention of a night nurse, which was not provided at the Old People’s Home. It was never the intention of the authorities to make the Old People’s Home an institution for incurables and in allowing such cases the Board was establishing a dangerous precedent. Mr Hornblow said he bad also been informed that no fires had been provided for the comfort of the old people on cold mornings. If this statement were true it would deprive the old people of a comfort that they would feel very keenly. He asked that investigation be made In this direction which the Board agreed upon. In reply to the chairman, Mr Hornblow said he would bring down a motion at the next meeting of the Board in respect to the transfer of hospital patients to the Old People’s Home.
