Mr Gardener, Mayor of Eaviu, is again seriously indisposed. There is a serious outbreak of measles at the Trentham camp. At the Invercargill Police Court, a dairyman was fined £5 for selling watered milk. An analysis showed 18 per cent water. George James Wood, injured at Auckland on Friday last as the result of a collision between a tram and a taxi, died at the hospital yesterday. An earthquake, accompanied by a loud report, was felt locally shortly before 8 o’clock on Tuesday night. A meeting of managers of the local Presbyterian Church will be held to-morrpw night, at 8 o’clock. As important business is to be discussed a lull attendance is requested. The friends of Mr M. E. Perrean, will regret to learn that he has been seriously indisposed with an attack of pleurisy and pneumonia since last week. We are pleased to state that he is pro gressing satisfactorily. The wedding took place at Otaki yesterday of Mr H. Signal, son of Mr W. Signal, ot Foxton and Miss (Hilda) Barber, only daughter of Mr and Mrs R. H. Barber, of Te Horo, and late of Foxtou, At Monday night’s Council meeting it was decided on the motion of Cr Whibley, seconded by Cr McColl, that a committee consisting of the Mayor and Crs Freeman, Henderson and the mover meet at 7.30 p.m. on Monday next, to go iuto the question of cost, etc., of rubbish ent. The management of Fuller’s Pictures announce a special attraction in the famous serial picture “The Adventures of Kathlyn,” which commences on Friday, June Jsth, and continues for 13 weeks, showing every Friday and Saturday, including matinees. The picture has had a phenomenal run in the lug centres and will be without doubt the finest production of its kind ever screened in Foxton. This picture is closely followed by the first production dealing with the great War, entitled “On His Majesty’s Service.” Another big attraction coming is “The California RoundUp,” depicting deeds of daring by cowgirls and cowboys. The Prime Minister stated that five steamers with refrigerating space are to arrive in New Zealand waters before the end of this month, viz., the Kia Ora, Remnera, Indrabarah, and Tougariro. Before the end of July the following also will reach hereOpawa, La Blanca, Delphic, Corinthic, Somerset, Ruahiue and Waiwera, Two steamers are at present loading meat at New Zealand ports. Mr Massey states that as far as could be seen, the supply of ships was now sufficient for the country’s needs, A complication had beeu introduced by the British Board of Trade taking three ships previously assigned to New Zealand for the Argentine trade to carry meat for the French troops. But iu return, the Board of Trade had arranged for the El Cordoes and La Blanca to take extra New Zealand cargoes.
