HURRAH FOR THE GIRLS!
A very enthusiastic meeting of the Girls Guild was held at the residence of Mrs Fraser, on Tuesday night. The object >of the Guild is to work in the interest of the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund, and to give the young ladies an opportunity of doing something to assist the Empire in the present crisis. Our young ladies cannot shoulder a rifle, and relieve our boys in the trenches —though some ol them have the blood of their fighting British ancestors coursing through their veins—but they are determined to assist in other ways, and it would cheer our lads at the front if they could only see them busily at work. The young men of the town, too, are giving the girls their backing, and to this end have formed a club to provide the sinews of war for the gallant sisters. The combined efforts of our young men and women are going to result in big things in the near future, in the cause of King and Empire. Hurrah for our young men and women.
