The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, June 17, 1915. CLOSER SETTLEMENT.
Some time ago a petition containing over five hundred signatures o( Foxtou residents, praying the Government to acquire laud at Moutoa and elsewhere adjacent to Foxton, for closer settlement was presented to the Prime Minister, by Mr W. H. Field, M.P. Mr Field pointed out to the Premier that a representative deputation would also wait upon him in connection with the petition, and proffer information and reasons why the land should be acquired, and thrown open for closer settlement. The Premier said be would cause an inspection to be made of the land, and it necessary would receive a deputation on the subject. Yesterday Mrßrodeiick, Commissioner of Lauds, accompanied by Mr J. Chryslall, visited Moutoa, and made a careful inspection of the country. The Commissioner’s visit was unheralded, and no attempt was made to seek information from residents. We believe however, that the Commissioner was very favourably Impressed with the laud for closer settlement purposes. What the nature of the report will be, however, we cannot conjecture, but it will be awaited with interest by local residents.
