THE BELGIAN FUND.
A MINISTERIAL . MESSAGE. The Mayor (Mr Alt'. Eraser) has received a couunuuicatioii from the Hon. J. Allen, Minister for Finance, relative to monthly donations lor the relief of the poor in Belgium and the Government subsidy in connection therewith and advises that 11 is Excellency the Governor recently received ihe following cablegram on this subject from the Secretary of State for the Colonies ; “National Committee for relief in Belgium has now been formed, with the Lord Mayor of London as Chairman, and A. Shirley Benn, M l’., as Treasurer. Its object is to appeal in this country for funds to assist the Commission’s relief work in Belgium. The Commission, owing to its neutral character , have nut thought it right to make this appeal itself; but the need for assistance has now become most urgent. I suggest that contributions for relict in Belgium should now be sent to this Committee, which will thus become a national channel for such contributions from the British Empire. Relief purchased from .Commission funds will be distributed in Belgium by the neutral Commission,” In accordance with the suggestion of the Secretary of Stale, all sums contributed through the Government for.the relief of the poor will be handed over to this neutral Commission lor distribution.
