New Zealand has its Roman matron, says a London paper. A young student from New Zealand, who has just completed his course of study in Ragland, was In some doubt as to whether he should join the colours. He had thought of writing home on the point, not from any hesitancy on his part to serve in the army, but because he wondered whether his mother would wish to see him after his two years’ absence. A cablegram from his mother solved his difficulty. “If you fall to join the colours,” ran the message, “don’t trouble to come home.” And he gladly enlisted. Referring to the war in his annual report to the parishioners of All Saints’, the vicar, Rev. Mr Raine said ; “ Never in our lifetime has there bee.n a more earnest call to prayer than now. Our freedom and liberty, dearly bought and much prized, is at stake. As an Empire we feel that the ‘ Lord of Hosts is with us, the God of Jacob is our refuge,’ Many of our citizens have heard the call of the Empire, and even now may be laying down their lives for its raaintainence. May I ask you to make more use ol the church at this time, ‘ for the Lord is the only giver of victory.’ Come and pray lor our Empire: the safety of our loved ones : the success of onr arms : the comfort and help of the wounded, the bereaved and the orphans, and, further, pray that it may all lead to a deepening of the spiritual life of the Empire and a realisation of its great responsibility.” Why pay dearly for Baking Powder when SHARE AND’S—the best that can be produced—costs less than others ?
