METHODIST CHURCH.
WELCOME TO THE REV. MR ROWE. A welcome social w f as tendered to the Rev. Mr Rowe, by the Methodist community in the Town Hall supper-room on Thursday night. The gathering was a representative one. Shannon was represented by Messrs Gibson and Judd. The Mayor (G. H. Stiles, Esq.) presided and apologised for the absence of the Rev. Mr Raine (Anglican) and Adjutant Jenkins (Salvation Army). On behalf ot the circuit Mr Stiles welcomed the new minister and his mother, and referred to the good report which had 'preceded the Rev, Mr Rowe from other circuits where he had laboured. He hoped Mr Rowe's slay in Foxton would be for a longer period, and that as the result of his labours and the hearty co operation of church members, bis ministry would result in a period of progress. The Rev. Mr Thomson, M.A. (Presbyterian) accorded a welcome on behalt of the Presbyterians, and referred to the happy relations existing so markedly among all the churches in Foxton. Messrs G. Huntly and Hamilton spoke on behalf of the local preachers. The Rev. Mr Rowe in acknowledging the welcome on behalf of bis mother and himself, asked for the prayers of the members and their sympathetic co-operation, and particularly their attendance at the services. He would give them of his best. The speeches were interspersed with musical and other items, those contributing' were Miss Signal, Messrs Chryslall, Saunders and Hornblow, Misses Signal and Evans officiated as accompanists. The ladies of the congregation provided refreshments.
