MR FRASER CONSENTS TO STAND. Messrs King, Lumsden, Boyes and Kellow, representing a meeting held on Tuesday night, waited on Mr Alfred Fraser yesterday with a request that he should accept nomination for the position of Mayor of Foxton. The following letter was presented : Foxton, 13th April, 1915. Alfred Fraser, Esq., Foxton. Dear Sir. We the undersigned on behalf of ourselves and over too other municipal electors, whom we have personally interviewed, have much pleasure iu asking you to accept nomination for the position of Mayor of Foxton, We feel that your thorough knowledge of municipal affairs and ability to carry out your ideas, eminently fils you tor the position, and we desire that you should hold the highest honour that it is possible for the people of this town to bestow. Yours faithfully, Wm. Ross, E. Healey, W. Petrie, G. T. Woodroofe, A. King, C. H. Podmorc, Jas. M. Kelly, Jas. W. Stevenson, Percy Lumsden, Ken. Furrie, R. Bryant, H. Claris, C. A. W. Hunt, Thos. East, A. J. Kellow, Arthur H. Boyes, P. Clark, R. Baker, Charles Simmons, A. Ross per Wra. Ross, A. J. Gibbs.

Mr Fraser stated that he was not personally seeking the position but felt that seeing the request came from such a large and representative number of ratepayers he felt it his duty to consider their wishes, and to assist to promote the welfare of the town. He was of opinion that the position of Mayor mainly called tor administration work and a careful watch on the finances of the borough. The future of the town also lay principally in the port and in the closer settlement of the adjoining farm lands. Mr Fraser concluded by stating that he would have much pleasure in acceding to the wishes of the deputation. A strong committee was formed to further the interests of the candidate.
