ELECTION.

OFFICIAL FIGURES FOR OTAKI. The official recount, scrutiny of the rolls, and counting of absent voters’ votes, in connection with the Otaki electorate, have now been completed by Mr J. Hurley (Returning Officer). There were 30 absent voters’ permits issued, and of these 8 were cast for Mr Field, and 22 for Mr Robertson. Of the Expeditionary Force’s votes, 49 went to Mr Field and 47 to Mr Robertson, while one was informal. Thus the official result of the poll is : Field 3.024 Robertson 2,384 Majority for Field 640 It is interesting to note that there were 77 informal votes — Otaki 19, Levin 17, Te Horo 2, Waikanae 3, Paraparaumu 4, Manakau 2, Paekakariki 1, Koputaroa x, Shannon 7, Tokoraaru 3, Moutoa 2, Foxton 12, Waihoanga 2, Oroua Downs 1, Makerna 1.

DR. McNAB WINS HAWKE’S BAY SEAT. A mistake occurred in the first count of the votes for the Hawke’s Bay seat, whereby xoo votes for Dr McNab were credited to Mr Campbell. A recount has now been completed, with the result that Dr McNab has been elected by nine votes. The final figures are : McNab 4,225 Campbell 4,216 DUNEDIN RECOUNTS. MUNRO’S MAJORITY REDUCED TO EIGHT. Dunedin, Dec. 15. The official count in Dunedin North resulted ; Walker 5,073 Thomson 3,749 In Dunedin Central the official count resulted : Munro 3,799 Statham 3,791 It is stated that in the Central a recount may be asked for.

PETITION AGAINST DR NEWMAN.

Wellington. Dec. 15th

A petition has been lodged by Mr G. Blatherwick against the return of Dr Newman for Wellington Hast. The grounds of the petition are understood to be the manner of . counting and the scrutiny of the Expeditionary Force votes.

Invercargill, Dec. 15. For the Invercargill electorate the official recount gives Hanan

3,618, Lillicrap 3,028 ; restoration

3,686, no-license 3,855, national 1 continuance 3,656, and national prohibition 3,898.

Gore, Dec. 16, The Mataura official recount resulted: —Anderson 2,908, Mehaffey 2,734, informal 29.
