SPEEDING-UP THE RAILYWAYS.
ALTERATION IN TIMETABLE. FOXTON NOT AFFECTED. The decision of the General Manager of Railways, to speed up the expresses running on the Napier, New Plymouth and Main Trunk lines, has necessitated a considerable alteration in the times of arrival and departure of trains in respect of Palmerston North. The time-table comes into operation on November x, and the alterations are most noticeable in the case of the expresses. The up Auckland express will arrive at 4.15 p.m. instead of 3.10 p.m., as at present. This train willdepart at 4.25 p.m. instead of 3.30 p.m. The down Aucklacd-Wel-liogton express will arrive at xx.iS a.m. instead of as at present at 12.25 p.m. The departure is fixed for ii.2S a.m, The New Plymouth express will arrive from Wellington at 11.59 a.m. and depart at 12.10 p.m. The mail train from New Plymouth is timed to arrive at Palmerston North at 3.16 p.m. and depart at 3.30 p.mThere is also a wide difference in the times of the Napier expresses, the up train being set down to arrive at 12.41 p.m., and depart at 1.1 p.m. The down express will arrive at 1.52 p.m. and depart at 2.2 p.m. There are also important changes in the terminus trains. No official alteration of the departure and arrival of the Foxton train has been received by the stationmaster.
