BOWLING.
The Levin green was officially opened yesterday afternoon, in ideal weather, the opening ceremony being performed by the club’s president, Mr F. G. Roe. The Foxton club was well represented, eleven members making the trip. The green was not in good order, nevertheless an enjoyable afternoon was spent. A match, the teams representing the President and Vice-president, was played, the latter being victorious. The visitors were hospitably entertained, the ladies providing afternoon tea.
A meeting of the committee of the Foxton Bowling Club was held on Monday afternoon. It was pointed out that according to the new rule, mats larger than the ones at present in use would have to be used, and Messrs Rimmer and F. D. Whibley were authorised to procure same. Messrs P. Robinson and J. Buglass were elected members of the Club. On the recommendation ol the ground committee, the official opening was fixed for Wednesday, October 21st. Several accounts were passed for payment, and arrangements made in connection with the opening of the green, and the meeting terminated. The. local green will be officially opened on Wednesday next, at 2.30 o’clock, by the President, Mr F. Woods, and Mrs Woods will provide afternoon tea. Although the opening ceremony does , not take place until next week, the green is open to members at the present time, and a number have been playing each evening.
Mr F. W. Gardes has offered a trophy tor the best croquet player this season, and Mrs Hislop has also donated a trophy for competition among croquet players. The Misses Ross have given a clock for timing matches, etc.
