MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

QUARTERLY RETURNS. The following are the returns of the business transacted at the local Magistrate’s Court during the quarter ended September 30th, 1914. During the quarter three sittings were presided over by the Magistrate, and 10 by Justices. CIVII.. Twenty eight cases where heard by the Magistrate, the aggregate amount sued for being ,£34073 id, and the amount recovered 12s 7d. Two applications were heard in chambers, 44 plaints, 10 distress warrants and 14 judgment summonses were issued, four orders were made on judgment summonses, 100 summonses, and other processes were served and x 8 distress warrants executed. The amount of fees paid in stamps was £24 16s. CRIMINAL. Fifteen person were taken into custody summoned or apprehended, three of whom were discharged for want of evidence and 12 were convicted. The amount of fines and fees paid in stamps was 16s. OLD AGE PENSIONS. One application for old age pension was refused.
