CRICKET.

The season was opened locally yesterday afternoon with a match, married v. single, on the Park pitch. Teams had been selected previously, and the players concerned had promised to be in attendance at the appointed hour, but a number failed to keep their appointment, and consequently substitutes had to be picked up on the ground. The exhibition of cricket given was very poor indeed, but allowance has to be made for the fact that the majority of the players had not handled, or even seen a bat since last season. The teams, on the day’s play, were particularly evenly matched, those enjoying “single blessedness” winning by the narrow margin of two runs. In order to prevent any misconception in the minds of any people, interested or otherwise, we wish here to state that in the case ot at least three of those who played for the benedicts no marriage licenses have yet been issued.

The bowlers yesterday all put up good performances, as the analysis below shows. The following are the scores : MARRIED.
