FIGHTING IN SOUTH AFRICA.

GERMANS ACTIVE. Capetown, Sept. 26. The Union force has occupied Uderitz Bay unopposed. The German garrison retreated blowing up the railway and destroying the wireless. A German patrol raided Walfish Bay (a British possession on the coast of German South-West Africa), capturing a police sergeant, and attempted to blow up the jetty. The Germans cleared all the border police Stations by daybreak by rushes of hundreds against the tiny garrision, apparently to prevent their watching defence movements on German territory. It is reported that the Germans Who crossed the Orange River occupied the Catholic Mission at PelLa, and will evidently try to cut communications between Steinkopf (near the coast) and Ramans Drift. Pretoria, Sept. 26. Official.—Two hundred Germans captured the police post at Rietfontein Cjnst across the border of German South-West Africa), and held the sub-inspector and nine men, who afterward escaped. Recruiting committees are organising General Botha’s additioaal 'force, which is shaping well. It provides a much-de-sired opening for ex-service men, who are burning to take the field. Existing volunteer corps and district comandoes in all parts of South Africa are offering for service en bloc.
