London, Sept. 27, 12.45 a.m. Reliable. —News from Paris is favourable to the Allies, whose centre is on the defensive and both flanks are vigorously on the offensive. German aeroplanes dropped lour bombs in Paris. Only one caused serious damage, killing one man. Heavy fighting is reported from Termonde and Hofatake, where the enemy has fallen back, losing several big guns. A German attack on Antwerp is considered imminent. Communication with Antwerp is becoming difficult. Reports from Petrograd state that the Germans are retreating towards Suralki. The Austrian army has fallen back in the west.

The Russians have occupied Turka, in Galicia. Thirty - six German ships, valued at .£2,000,000 are held up in Antwerp. The French fleet bombarded Cattaro for 12 hours and several forts were dismantled. Russians have completely isolated Przemysl. They have cut off railroads connecting fortresses in the north with Jaroslav, in the east Lemberg, west Tarnow, south Thyrom.

News regarding the operations of the opposing armies along the battle front of the Aisne, is censored, an indication that the crisis of this stupendous battle is now approaching. Fierce attacks and counter attacks along the line still continue to be in favour of the Allies. Marked progress has been made by the Allies lett, which has repulsed a series of desperate counter attacks by the Germans, who have charged right up to the line with the bayonet. The centre has hurled back a vigorous attack by the Prussian Guards. In the Argonne, Southern Woevre, and the Lorraine-Vosges-Alsace front, the situation has undergone very little change. In the eastern theatre of the war, the Russians have delivered their assault on the great Austrian fortress of Przemysl, and the Austrians have been compelled to retire to the eastern portion of the defences, and the position for the Austrians is now extremely critical. Further north, the Russians are in active contact with the Germans in Russian Poland, and have repulsed their vanguard. In East Prussia the Russian Commander Rennekamof has manoeuvred for position, with such success as to compel the Germans to give battle upon ground of his own choosing, and a great battle is now stated to be imminent. The Germans made an unsuccessful advance on Antwerp, being repulsed by the Belgians. The general result of the fighting was successful to the Belgians. Their Majesties the King and Queen and Lord Kitchener made a day’s tour of Aldershot, and inspected 130,000 men of the new army.
