NAVAL ENGAGEMENT. The following official messages were received from the High Commisioner at noon to-day : “London, Sept. 4. Official : Seven German destroyers and torpedo boats have arrived at Kiel in a damaged condition. It is understood that others were sunk in a victory in the vicinity of the Kiel Canal. The Russians have captured Lemberg, in Galicia. Reliable ; The enemy is bombarding Senlis, 26 miles from Paris. London, 4th Sept., Official. — Seven days of most stubborn fighting in Eastern Galicia resulted in a complete victory for the Russians, Five Austrians corps were completely routed, retreating westward in disorder #ud abandoning arms and baggage. Besides an enormous number of killed the Austrians lost 40,000 prisioners, including many generals, panic spreading among the Austrian troops. During seven days the Russian have taken two hundred guns and 70,000 prisioners, the operations extending over a front of two hundred miles. The Austrians extreme right sustained the greatest losses. This crowning victory means that the Russians and Servians have accounted for practically halt of the AustroHungary army and Germany cannot expect help from her ally. The general lines occupied by the Allied armies in northern France are in line ot the Seine to west of Paris. The Allies hold a fairly strong position and their Iront is still unbroken.
