PRESBYTERIAN SUNDAY SCHOOL.

The annual winter social and prize distribution in connection with the Presbyterian Sunday School was held last night in the Schoolroom at the back of the Church. The accommodation was taxed to the utmost and the programme and proceedings throughout were first-class and hearty. Both children and parents were fully represented and plain evidence given of the flourishing state of the Sabbath School at the present time. The following children contributed to the programme : Recitations by Sarah Henderson, Stella Robinson, Ina Anderson, M. Campbell, M. Sylva, M. McGarvie, and little Leila Robinson, and Reg. McEwen, Willie McKnight, Alick Henderson, Ninian Ross and Willie Claris; solos by Ella Patterson and Claud Cunningham; combined songs by six little ones, Isie and Madge Patterson, Mona Stevenson, Pearl Thomson, Ida Speirs and Phyllis Robinsona pianoforte solo by Joyce Claris; and a dialogue by Mona McEwen, Nellie Hastie, Sarah Henderson, Ethel Edlin, Reg. McEwen and Ninian Ross. Mrs Patterson played all the accompaniments. The Rev. J. M. Thomson, who presided, gave a short address that interested the children greatly. The Superintendent, Mr John Speirs, gave a report of the work done in the Sabbath School, which showed general good progress, the roll number increasing and also the staff. On the motion of the Minister a special vote of thanks was tendered Mr John Speirs, as Superintendent, and a further hearty vote was given to his highly efficient staff of teachers and officers, viz.—Misses Ross, Miller, Cook, E. Ross, B. Speirs and Mr Edgar McEwen, secretary, and Masters H. Rimmer and B. Barnett, librarians, Mrs Patterson, ably assisted by Miss E. Ross, who had so diligently and successfully prepared and trained the children for their parts in the programme, was accorded a most enthusiastic vote of thanks by acclamation. The numerous and handsome prizes were then distributed by the Minister. Refreshments on a lavish scale were provided and the meeting concluded with the singing of the Doxology and the pronouncing of the Benediction.
