METHODIST CHURCH.
The Methodist Sunday School Anniversary was held at Oroua Downs last Sunday evening. The preacher, Rev J. Crawford, preached to a crowded congregation, and laid emphasis on the responsibility of parents in the training of their children. The children sang special anthems. On Tuesday evening, in the Hall, the 1 anniversary social was held. The building was filled to overflowing, and the chair was occupied by the Rev W. G. Maslin, who opened with prayer. A lengthy and interesting programme was submitted, consisting of anthems by the children, solos, musical selections on piano and violin, and recitations, each item being much enjoyed by all. The chairman congratulated the Superintendent, Mr Street, on the success of the school and gathering, and also Mrs Scott for the able manner in which she had trained the children. Votes of thanks were carried unanimously to both Mr Street and Mrs Scott, and to all others who had helped to make the meeting a success. During the evening the chairman presented the prizes to the children, and made a few remarks intended to stimulate them to still greater effort in the future. Refreshments were handed round by the ladies, and a most successful anniversary gathering was brought to a close by the singing of the Doxology and the pronouncing of the Bene* diction.
