WORKS COMMITTEE’S REPORT.

The following report and recommendations of the meeting of the Works Committee held on May 13th, was read at last night’s Council meeting:— “The Town Clerk was instructed to issue notices to the following : Mr Eggers, to clean out drain through property from Reeve to Johnston street end ; Mesclaraes Howe and Gore, re clearing of gorse and lupins from off and alongside their properties; also to Messrs A. S, Easton, E. Ingram, W. Aldridge, W. S. Carter and A. Speirs re the same. It was resolved to recommend that the Council go into the qiwstion of selling a strip of Coley street to property owners, from C. Symons to Putter street, the receipts of such sale to go towards forming a footpath in that street; also that a footpath be formed from the bowling green corner, along Russell Street, to Robinson street; that a footpath with a concrete kerbing be made along the north side of Cook street from Main street to Johnston street, and to be covered with two inches of metal ; to plank and fill in the Awahou creek at the angle in Johnston street, near Mrs Coley’s property : that part of the mortuary shed at the cemetery be boarded off as a store-room, and that the present small shed be removed to a position behind the mound on which Mrs Stewart’s grave is, and that it be roofed with iron. It was resolved to use the road grader as soon as it can be obtained, and to do whatever patching is necessary to the roads. The following works will be first put in hand ; —Finishing the footpath Avenue road, new footpath Park street, altering Clyde street footpaths, repairing footpaths Main street.”
