THE HEMP MARKET.
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT.
The High Commissioner cabled at noon yesterday as follows : The hemp market is quiet, with small business doing, and prices have declined. Manila fair current, ; New Zealand good fair, ,£26; fair June-August shipments five shillings more in each case. The output of Manila for the week was 21,000 bales. The stock of New Zealand hemp at the end of May was 971 tons. Sisal is reported easier, New York quotation being 5.25 cents, which is equal to ,£25 per ton c.i.f. Europe. Shipments from Progreso to April xoth totalled 2,893 bales, as against 47.93 s bales during April of last year. The stocks at the beginning of May were 40,957 bales, as against 127,000 at the same time last year. The New Zealand tow market is quiet, there being very little offering. The nominal values are: Second grade, .£l3 ids ; third, 10s. The stock at the end of May was 334 tons.
