MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
QUARTERLY RETURNS
The local Clerk of the Court (Mr F. Woods) has supplied us with the following details of the business transacted at the local Court during the quarter ended March 31st, 1914 : CIVIL. Two sittings of the Court were presided over by the Magistrate, and 10 by Justices. Fifty-four cases were heard and determined by the Magistrate. The total amount sued lor was ,£421 8s 6d, and the amount recovered ,£lO2 os rod. Fifty-seven plaints were entered, four distress warrants, and 12 judgment summonses, and five orders were made, and five distress warrants executed. The number of summonses and other processes served by the bailiff was 120. The amount of fees paid iu stamps was ,£2l 9s od. CRIMINAL. Twenty persons were summoned or apprehended, one was discharged for want of prosecution, one on the merits, 13 were fined, orders were made iu two cases, and three were convicted and discharged. The amount of fees and fines was £g 10s od. OLD AGE PENSIONS. Niue old age pensions were granted, one refused, and five are pending.
