FAREWELL SOCIAL, & PRE SENTATION TO REV. & MISS COATSWORTH.

The Rev Mr Coatsworth, who has had charge of the Foxton Methodist Circuit for the past three years and who has been transferred to Halcombe, was, together with his sister, tendered a farewell social and presentations by members of his congregation in the Masonic Hall on Tuesday night. There was a good attendance and the Mayor (Mr G. H. Stiles) who is also circuit steward, presided. After devotional exercises, the Mayor spoke on the object of the gathering and referred to the splendid work accomplished by the minister during his residence in the circuit and expressed the regret of the congregation at losing such an estimable pastor. He referred to the Rev Mr Coatsworth's devotion to his spiritual duties, his sympathetic and spiritual nature. He also paid a glowing tribute to the able co-operation rendered Mr Coatsworth by his sister in church work. He asked Mr Coatsworth to accept, on behalf of the congregation, a leather dressing case as a mark of their esteem. He referred in lighter vein to the revgentleman’s approaching wedding and expressed the hope that he would, as soon as possible after the interesting event, bring his bride to his old circuit for an expression of the congregation’s approval. The Rev Mr Crawford, in charge at Shannon under the superintendence of Mr Coatsworth, spoke feelingly of the pleasant associations, Christian character, sympathy and assistance he had received from his super. He also referred in glowing terms to Miss Coatsworth and wished them God’s richest blessing in their new sphere of labour. Messrs Huntley, Chrystall and Smith endorsed what had been said by the previous speakers. Mr M. H, Walker presented Miss Coatsworth, on behalf of the ladies guild, vvith a dressing case and referred to that lady’s good work in connection with the church. Mr Judd, of Shannon, also spoke on behalf of the Shannon congregation. Mr Coatsworth feelingly replied on behalf of himself and sister. He referred to the sympathy and hearty co-operation of his office-bearers and members and trusted the same spirit would actuate them in supporting his successor, the Rev Mr Masli u - A much appreciated programme was provided by the choir and friends, after which refreshments were partaken of. The Rev Mr Coatsworth and Miss Coatsworth left Foxton yesterday.
