ENTERTAINMENTS.

MUNICIPAL PICTURES

The programme for to-morrow uigbt is such a very attractive one that we cannot afford the space to describe the various items in full, so will refer our readers to the advertisement appearing in another column. The ster drama of over 2000 ft is of so fascinating a nature that we give a lull description of same. —After experimenting for twenty years, Jonathan Moore’s mind becomes unbalanced, and he believes that he has perfected a formula for the making of diamonds artificially. His wife (not knowing he is insane) does not believe in his success, but thinks him a failure. Violet, his daughter, however, thinks him a genius, and tries to ward off domestic strife in the family. Phelps, the sou of Firestoue, a diamond merchant, is one of two suitors for Violet’s hand, but she prefers Olin, the other suitor. Moore cables to the International Diamond Syndicate in Loudon, telling them of his invention. Bloodgood, the President, at once advises Rollins, his New York agent, to look into the matter. Bill, a sporting friend of Phelps, induces him to bet heavily at the races, with the result that he loses not only his money, but also money that he has borrowed. In order to get out of his difficulties, Phelps watches Moore, and learns the secret of making the diamonds. He tells Bill, who knows nothing of the Moores, and suggests that they seek a market for the invention. Bloodgood and Rollins go to the house ot Jonathan Moore for a demonstration, where they meet Olin, Phelps, aud Firestone. Satisfied that the invention is bona fide, Bloodgood offers Moore a million dollars for it, which offer is refused. A day or two latter, Violet attempts to make a diamond herself, while her father is sleeping. The old man awakens, aud jumping up hastily, tells her that he will make one for her. His strange actions makes Violet watch him carefully, and she discovers that he puts an actual diamond into the machine before pretending to make it. She is full of pity for him. That night a blackcoated figure crawls into Moore’s room, places a charge of dynamite beneath the machine, lights the fuse, aud crawls out, and a few seconds later the explosion occurs. Violet rushes in, and finds her father missing. The police are called, and by means of police dogs it is discovered that Moore has been taken to the counterfeiters’ celler, where he is found, gagged and bound. He had blown up his own machine, and left the room by the window. As he passed outside he had been seized and carried to the celler, where he had been forced to sign a paper, unaware of its contents, authorizing Bill to negotiate for the sale of the machine. The shock sustained by Moore results in his regaining his reason, aud he begs his wife’s pardon for having been a trial to her. Olin proposes to Violet, aud before they leave the celler she takes him to her father aud_ introduces him as her promised husband.
