HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A committee meeting of th® local Horticultural Society wa s held on Tuesday evening. Ther e was a good attendance and th e president (Mr H. Witchell) occupied'the chair. A statement of receipts and expenditure iu connection with the autumn show was submitted by the secretary which disclosed a deficiency of £7 is xod ; the receipts totalled ,£2O 4s lid and the expenditure £27 6s 9d, The principal items of receipts were ; Door takings ,£6 4s 6d and entrance fees ,£6 9 s 9d ; while the expenditure included ; Prize money ,£l3 18s 6d, schedules £y 15s, hall hire £2 10s. Accounts were passed for payment and votes of thanks accorded to donors of special prizes, viz., Mr F. O. Smith 10s 6d forJ pound cake at spring show and 10s 6d for fruit cake at autumn show ; Mrs Renton poiuts prize of 5 s each show for sponge cake, sponge sandwich and sponge roll ; and Mr Woodroofe. The lady helpers were also thanked for their asistance. Mr Galland’s resignation was received with regret and the committee hoped that on some future occasion he may see his way to again become a member. Other minor matters were discussed and the meeting rose.
