YOUNG WOMAN’S DEATH.
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST
Auckland, March 18
The inquest concerning the death of Connie Annie Bain was resumed to-day. Deceased was a domestic servant aged 33, and was admitted to the hospital on March 9th, and died the same evening. Amy Fellows, wife of the licensee of the Alexandra Hotel, said that deceased had been in her employ as a housemaid and waitress since December last. She was a good living girl. On Sunday morning, March S, deceased was out of sorts, and was put to bed. Subsequently she fainted. On Monday she was very ill, and a doctor was called in.
A fellow employee who had known deceased for four years said she saw deceased frequently, and had no idea of her condition. Dr. M’Cutcheon, resident physician at the Auckland Hospital, said that Bain died about five hours after admission to the institution of acute septicaemia, following an illegal operation. The Coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical opinion, and said that there was no evidence to show who had performed the operation.
