GARDEN PARTY.

The ladies’ of All Saints’ Guild held a garden party yesterday in the vicarage grounds. The Mayor, Mr G. H. Stiles, opened the affair at 3 p.m. In his remarks Mr Stiles said it was a pleasure to him to perform the opening ceremony as he considered the object, namely, improvements to the vicarage property, was worthy of the support of all church people. He himself had once lived on the property and so he had an interest in its welfare, and it recalled to him many happy recollections.

He then wished the ladies every success in their effort and declared the function opened amid applause. The following stalls were dotted here and there under the trees, all of which were most tastefully arranged : Guild Stall, under the supervision of Mesdames A. S. Easton and Barber senr. Produce Stall, Mesdames James and John Robinson. Sweet Stall, Mesdames C. Robinson and Austin-Johnstou. Flower Stall, the Misses Robinson (2). Tea was handed round by Mesdames Jenks and Woods. A number of foot races were indulged in, and created a good deal .of interest. Indies’ egg and spoon race, Mrs Guilder 1, Miss Stacpoole 2 ; ladies’ race, Miss Bryant 1, Miss Alzdorf 2; girls’ race, Avis Greig 1, Nellie Woods 2 ; boys’, Nelson Ball.
