BATHING FATALITY.

BROTHER’S ATTEMPT AT

RESCUE,

Napier, February 1

A youth named Gilbert M’Clymont, aged 19 years, was drowned in the Tutaekuri River this morning whilst bathing. Deceased, who only arrived from Dannevirke on Saturday evening, was swimming, when his brother James, noticing something was wrong, dived in after him, and was carried down by the drowning youth. He managed to free himself, and get to the bank. Another bather named Pierce Eddy then dived for the deceased and succeeded in recovering the body after the second attempt. Though deceased had been only five or six minutes in the water, life was extinct. Unsuccessful attempts to restore animation were continued for two hours. Deceased’s parents live in Napier.
