PRESENTATION.

A pleasing ceremony took place at the local State school on Thursday at the breaking-up ceremony, when Mr Hornblow, chairman of committee, . presented Miss Wanklyn, who has resigned from the service, with a handsome salad bowl and spoons and biscuit barrel on behalf of the scholars, a silver tea caddy on behalf of the staff and a set of afternoon tea silver ware on behalf of the committee. In making the presentation Mr Hornblow referred to the recipient’s long and faithful services under the Board. From a scholar in the school Miss Wanklyn had graduated into the teaching profession and had won well-deserved promotion. For many years she had occupied what was probably the most responsible position in the school, the training of the inlants. Her exemplary character had made a marked impression for good on the pupils who had passed through her bands, and she held a high place in the affections and esteem of the scholars. Her resignation was a severe loss to the Board and to the school. During her fourteen years’ service at the school not one complaint had been registered against her—a record which-Miss Wanklyn had cause to feel proud of. On behalf of the staff, committee and scholars, the Chairman wished Miss Wanklyn long life and happiness. The children made the quad ring again with their cheers lor the retiring teacher. Mr Jackson feelingly responded on behalf of Miss Wanklyn, and endorsed what had been said by Mr Hornblow.
