DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES,

The breaking-up ceremony and distribution of prizes in connection with the local State school took place on Thursday afternoon. The spacious quadrangle was filled with scholars and there was also a good attendance of parents. Dr. Mandl presented the prizes and delivered an instructive address to the children. He cougratulaled the staff on the excellent work accomplished and the children upon the progress they had made. He paid a special tribute to the splendid behaviour of the children both at school and outside. He concluded by congratulating the staff, parents and scholars upon having such an enthusiastic committee to watch over the welfare of the school: The following is the prize list: — Proficiency Prizes. After the distribution of prizes, Mr Hornblow, chairmam of committee, briefly addressed those present and called for cheers tor the staff and those who donated special prizes. The head teacher, Mr Jackson, suitably acknowledged the complimentary references and good wishes expressed by the previous sneakers. The children were subsequently entertained in the play ground. The committee desire to thank Mr and Mrs Fraser, Mr Coley, Mr Bock, Mrs Gibbs, Mrs Paikes and members of the teaching staff for prizes, and Messrs Collins, Rimmer, Perreau, T. Henderson and Mrs Johnston for sweets.
