THE LOCAL PORT.

WATERSIDE WORKERS ACCEPT PERMANENT WORK. Six members of the local Waterside Workers Union this morning accepted employment with Messrs Levin and Co., under improved conditions to what obtained under the old waterside agreement, i.e., a guarantee of per month. This will mean that the men will be permanently employed on the wharf and in the shed. This will remove any obstacle in the way of keeping the port open. A meeting of the railway casuals is to be held to see what action they will take. In the event of their refusing to work other men will be procured. The Queen with general cargo is expected from Wellington tomorrow and the Wootton on Saturday.
