The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council will be held in the Council Chambers on Monday next, Bth. Dec. 1913, at 7.30 p.m. Business: General, and consideration of receipt of Mr Suggate’s report on water and drainage. An elderly man, William Smith, a resident of Bulls lor 35 years, was killed instantaneously on Tuesday. He was giving a lad a ride behind' him while returning home from the Martou stock sales, and the horse, objecting to the double burden, threw Smith. He fell on his forehead, and was killed instantaneously. He leaves a widow and eight children, all grown up.

At a recent meeting of the committee of the Foxton Dawn Tennis Club, it was decided, owing to the large membership, that no further new members be admitted for an indefinite period, subject to the discretion of the committee. ' It was also decided that certain of the club’s rules relating to (j) the wearing of tenuis shoes (2) use of the courts by members, be strictly enforced during the season. A young man named Reginald C. Faber, aged 18, met with a fatal accident at Wanganui on Monday, while riding a motor bicycle. He collided with a dray, and sustained a fractured larynx. Death resulted the following day. Faber was a well-known athlete, and an ex-student of the Wanganui Collegiate School. He represented Wanganui in Rugby football, cricket and hockey, and was a prominent oarsman. Duncan McCallum, about 35 years of age, a grain and produce merchant in Blenheim, was found dead at his home ai Springlands on Monday evening under circumstances pointing to suicide. A shot-gun was found with a strap lied to a trigger and fastened to the stove. Evidently deceased had placed the gun barrel in his mouth and pulled it towards him, thus discharging the weapon. Deceased’s wife and child were on a visit to Nelson at the time of the tragedy. CrJ. G. Wilson was re-elected chairman of the Manawatu County Council on Tuesday, on the motion of Cr Gray, who said the Council were fortunate in having a gentleman of such ability and experience to take the chair. Cr Barber seconded the motion, which was spoken to by all the Councillors, who praised Mr Wilson for his method of conducting the business of the Council, and stated it would be a calamity to lose his services. The motion was carried unanimously. In acknowledging his re-election, Cr Wilson said any of the Councillors could conduct the business of the Council as well as he.
