ENTERTAINMENTS.
MUNICIPAL PICTURES.
The programme lor to-morrow evening is one of more than exceptional merit. The star picture, “Nigger Jim,” is a fine coloured drama of sporting life in the United Stales of America, and has been a huge success wherever shown. The story centres round a racehorse owner, his daughter, his jockey and his horse, Prince Charlie, which is entered for a big race. The owner promises Jack that if hd wins the race he shall marry his daughter. The race takes place; the stands are packed. In spite of attempts being made to nobble Prince Charlie, Jack gallantly wins the race,-and claims his reward. The other dramas are, “The Stolen Leaf,’’ and “The Man who Would not Marry.’’ The former is a truly great and powerful drama of real life, and the dramatic interest aroused by this really vivid tale, depicting the sorrows of poverty, is of the most intense kind, while the latter is a most excellent 1,000 feet film and a dramatic masterpiece which illustrates that the man who is tardy in declaring his love when the right woman comes along may be left lamenting. The comics are : “Hubby Buys a Baby,’’ in which the popular John Bunny buys a black baby, which, with a white poodle, gets hopelessly mixed, to the screaming delight of the audience; “The Complete Sportsman” is a brilliant comic gem of 1,280 feet, and the popular Max Linder squeezes a hearty laugh into every inch of it. “Pathe Gazette,” as usual, is most up-to-date. “From Gothenbourg to Christiana” is a rare scenic, and a film of gorgeous beauty. “A Chat about Tortoises” is a useful and educational film which instructs both young and old. “Little Joe, the Boy Wonder,” is one of Pathe’s most clever and sensational vaudeville acts. The whole programme is without doubt of a most attractive nature, and such as should draw a bumper house.
