MANAWATU ROWING CLUB.
The annual general meeting of the Manawatu Rowing Club to have been held last night lapsed for the want of a quorum, only four members pulling in au appearance. In view of the fact that we have a splendid river for rowing purposes right alongside us it is surprising that more interest is not evinced in this healthy sport. The Manawatu Rowing Club has teen established for a great many years and in the past its colours have been very prominent at regattas in Wellington and Wanganui, but of late years the members of the club and the geueral public have taken little or no interest in the sport. The club has a credit balance of about £2O and the plant, including pleasure boats and outriggers, is in very good repair, and all that is required to make the club a success is for the members and general public to take an interest in its affairs. There is no reason whatever wiry the Manawatu Rowing Club should not be represented at the regattas in Wellington and Wanganui, and in this connection it may be mentioned that the club captaiu, Mr H. MeKegney, last jear purchased a skiff and took part in the regatta at Wanganui, securing second place in the single sculls. On account of the local club not being affiliated with the Association, however, McKegney had to also join a Wanganui club and row in their colours. It is to be hoped that this year the Manawatu Rowing Club will affiliate and thus allow its members to take part in regattas.
Another meeting will be convened at a later date when it is hoped to get a quorum and thus be able to open the season.
