SANITARY CONDITIONS.
At last night's Council meeting a letter was read from the District Health Officer, Dr. Chesson, reporting unfavourably on sanitary conditions in connection with a dwelling in Coley Street and made suggestions to the Council for the remedying of the evil. —It was decided on the motion of Cr Henderson, seconded by Cr Freeman, that the report from Dr. Chesson, District Health Officer, be received and that the owners of the property referred to and the occupiers be instructed to carry out the improvements as laid down iu the report. Further reports in connection with the cottage in Main Street referred to at the last meeting by the Inspector of Nuisances were received from that officer and also from the Hospital Board’s Officer and the District Health Officer, Dr. Chesson, and it was decided on the motion of Cr Whibley, seconded by Cr Freeman, that the Trustees of Gray's Estate be written to stating that unless this house is put in good order it will probably be condemned at an early date.
The Inspector of Nuisances also complained of insufficient sanitary arrangements in connection with another Main Street building, and it was decided on the motion of Cr Henderson, seconded byCr Freeman, that the owner in question be notified to have the nuisance abated and to erect sanitary conveniences as laid down in the bylaws.
