JAPS AND CALIFORNIA.
New York, May 3,
The California State Government has adopted an amendment permitting Japanese to hold land on a three years’ lease. Mr Bryan is now hopeful that he will be able to mitigate the worst features of the law, so that Japan may have no grounds to complain. Mr Curtin’s resolution for agreeing with the President’s wishes was, however, defeated by a large majority.
Mr Curtin quoted the Loudon Times in respect of its reference to a solution as affecting British Columbia aud advocating similar action in California.
