FATAL FIRE.

Wellington, May 3

About 11.30 last night a fire broke out at No. 28, Lome Street —a two-storey house of five rooms, owned by the Sample Estate, and occupied by Urban George Frederick Hall aud his wife Phyllis Hall.

A heavy southerly fanned the flames, and. the house was gutted very quickly. Three lodgers escaped, but Hall aud his wife were apparently overcome by the smoke and suffocated.

Their bodies were found in an upstairs room when the fire was suppressed.
