THE MAYORALTY.
A meeting of Mr Stiles’ supporters was held in the Masonic Hall last night. The attendance was small but representative. Mr Stiles addressed the meeting and explained why he had acceded to the request to again offer his services to the burgesses. During the twelve years he had served the public he had acted in what he considered the best interests of the borough and its people. He was not ashamed of his record which would bear the closest scrutiny. If the people were satisfied with his administration then he asked them to show it at the ballot box. A party cry had been raised which he regretted. In the past he had recognised no party and did not intend to do so in the future. He would be actuated by doing what he considered to be in the best interests of the borough as a whole. The Council could not do impossibilities with the revenue at its command and the money should be so expended as to give the best general results. Other matters of a general nature were discussed by the candidate and those present and a committee set up to attend to details.
