SCHOOL EXCURSION.
TO VISIT THE BATTLESHIP NEW ZEALAND.
TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS
We received particulars from the local statioumaster yesterday in connection with the proposed school excursion to visit the battleship New Zealand. At the last meeting of the School Committee it was decided to take advantage of the railway facilities provided for school children in order to give them an opportunity to look over the battleship. No details, however, were available lor the meeting.
The excursion will take place on Saturday, the 19th inst. A special train will leave Foxton at 6 a.m,, and will arriye at Wellington at 12.15 p.m., and will depart from Wellington at 4.15 p.m., arriving at Foxton at 9.58 p.m. Roughly, the local youngsters will spend hours in the train and lour hours in the Empire City. In order to see as much of the ship as possible the four hours will have to be carefully husbanded. I _ , . T 7«
Foxton, Raugiotu and Himataugi schools will use this service. The schools between Longburn and Paraparaumu will reach Wellington an hour earlier, viz., at 11.15 u.m., by a train leaving Longburn at 6,40 a.m., and will not leave till 4.50 p.m. It seems a pity that the Foxton, Himatangi and Rangiotu contingents could not catch this train. However, we suppose the Department has done its best to meet the excursionists on the Foxton line. Seeing that the children from this locality will have such a limited time at their disposal, it is hoped that special attention will be given them by those in authority at the other end. No doubt the Committee will give this matter careful consideration.
A special train' to convey the children will leave Foxton at the hour stated, and connect at Longburn with the ordinary train leaving that station at 7.15 a.m. Similarly in the evening a special will be run from Longburn to Foxton, connecting with the ordinary 4.15 p.m. train from Wellington,
Adults other than teachers and committeemen will not be permitted to travel by special trains, but holiday excursion tickets will be issued to members of the public available by ordinary trains only. Surely the special train between Foxton and Longburn could be speeded up in order to connect with the earlier train ?
A special meeting of the School Committee will be held this evening to discuss the matter.
