THE MAYORALTY.

By advertisement elsewhere in this issue the Mayor announces that owing to pressure of private business he will be unable to offer his services to the burgesses for a further term ot office. The only other names mentioned for the Mayoralty, besides Mr Harvey’s, are those of Mr Geo. H. Stiles and Cr Chrystall. Mr Stiles, if he consents to nomination, would receive a particularly strong backing. He was a Councillor lor many years and on four occasions occupied the civic chair with marked credit, tact and dignity. We know of no one at the present time who could fill the bill with greater credit, or one who has such a comprehensive knowledge of the borough’s administrative affairs, or more capable to guide it through financial channels.
